Birthday parties are an important part of growing up. They mark progress and are the hope of a new year to come. But sadly, there are hundreds of Sacramento children living in homelessness or in emergency situations whose birthdays will pass without any celebration.
Hands on Sacramento, a local volunteer organization, brings hope to these children in a unique way: Project Birthday. Our goal is to brighten and celebrate the lives of those in need by providing birthday parties and gifts to children in the Sacramento area.
Project Birthday held its first party at St. John’s Shelter for Women and Children in June 2004, and has continued hosting monthly birthday parties there. Since then, our project has expanded to include the children at Serna Village, Volunteers of America, Family Promise, My Sister's House, Overcomer's Shelter and Tubman House.
During 2008, with the support of our volunteers and donors, 132 birthdays were celebrated and over 936 children attended our parties.

That special gift.
A slice of birthday cake.
Blowing out all the candles.
The joy of knowing that someone remembered you and took the time to let you know they care.
Project Birthday is a community and volunteer effort and we would like to invite you to be a part.
